Why I don’t give away RAW files
Sometimes as photographers, our customers ask us if they can have or buy the un-edtied RAW files after their photo session or wedding. Many photographers do not allow this for one reason or another, and so I thought I would put together some reasons of why I personally do not allow my customers to have unedited files.
1. Style -When you choose a photographer, along with their expertise, you are paying for their specific style. The style which represents my work is bright and upbeat! Have a good look at different photographers work and write down what stands out the most about their work and what you like the most, that way you will have more of an idea whether you want bright and fun, or dark and atmospheric.
2. Taking the photo is only half the work! A lot goes into making a photograph after the shutter has been pressed! Hand editing each and every photograph takes a lot of time and skill! If someone was making a fab new jumper, you wouldn’t ask them for only their knitting needles and wool! You would wait for them to spend time weaving to perfection to make the unique, colourful wonderfulness!
When a writer sells his book, the drafts never come included. You wouldn’t ask the cake maker for just their ingredients! And so its the same with photography.
3. The files I work with are very large and so I delete upon first look the photos not worth saving before storing the very best images to multiple hard-drives for ultimate photo safety!
There are various reasons photos get deleted, such as blinking, photo not exposed properly, photos which are very similar etc!
When you have your photographs taken with me, I want to show you in your best light possible. These memories I provide for you to treasure forever, I want them to be perfect! They should be works of art you are proud to hang in your home.
I will always choose the most flattering images which capture your truth and quality will always come before quantity.
Whether it is singing waiters, or just handing out some lyrics and having a good old sing-song / dance before your meal, I really do believe music can absolutely make a wedding - AND produce some bloody amazing photos at the same time (Keep me busy) !!!! Here you can see a few photos from Amy and Pauls wedding day at Scarborough Spa wedding venue - just look at the fun and energy! I would also like to point out that Groom Paul booked this singing waiter (Jack Ollett) and so bride Amy had absolutely no idea what was happening! The look on her face was priceless! Especially at the end when Jack sang Amy's absolute fave song! :) They also had the biggest conga line I have ever seen and it was just so much fun! (As you can see).
Using smoke within your wedding photos can be a fun way of getting quirky and creative photos. There are definitely pros and cons to using these at your wedding and below I have outlined my thoughts! :)
