Unconventional Wedding: Planning Your Outdoor Festival Wedding Without a Planner

Lets make wedding planning FUN!!

 Hey there! :)

Firstly, congratulations on your upcoming wedding - woohoo!

Planning your day without a venue coordinator or wedding planner might seem scary, but with the right preparation, it can be AND SHOULD BE an incredibly rewarding experience.

Here you will find some tips and tricks to help you create a smooth flow for your wedding day

Firstly, choosing the perfect space to host your wedding is a crucial decision that sets the tone for your day. Here's a guide to help you navigate the process:

Assess Your Options:

  • Start by considering various locations that hold significance to you and your partner. This could be a family member's spacious back garden, a picturesque piece of owned land, or even a rented venue with outdoor space.
  • Think about the size of your guest list, the ambiance you want to create, and any specific requirements or restrictions you may have.

. Consider Logistics:

  • Evaluate the logistics of each potential venue. Does the space have easy access for vendors, guests, and any necessary equipment?
  • Check if there are amenities available such as restrooms, electricity, and parking. If not, consider whether you'll need to rent additional facilities or make arrangements for these services.

 Weather Contingency Plan:

  • Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but they also come with the risk of unpredictable weather. Have a backup plan in place in case of rain or extreme weather conditions.
  • If you're considering a marquee or tent, ensure it's sturdy and equipped to handle various weather scenarios.

VENUE SORTED, NOW WHAT?!

Start by mapping out a detailed timeline for the day. Consider factors like travel time between locations, setup and breakdown periods, and the flow of events. Having a clear schedule will help keep everything on track.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THIS ALONE

Speak to wedding suppliers you love, to see if they have any planning advice for you -

I for one know for one that I love advising my couples with tips to plan out their day, and vendors such as photographers like myself, may give you handy tips such as not planning the speeches around sunset as you don't want to miss the GOLDEN opportunity to go and have some stunning golden hour couple portraits!

Efficient Setup: Designate a team or trusted friends to help with the setup and breakdown of ceremony elements. Ensure that everything is organized and ready to go beforehand to minimize stress on the day.

Creative Signage and Communication:

Use signage or announcements to guide guests from the ceremony to the food area. Clearly mark the location of the street food van and any other points of interest. Communication is key to keeping everyone informed and engaged - you can also add timings in so everyone knows what to expect and when.

Consider using a sound system or microphone to ensure that speeches are heard clearly, especially in an outdoor setting.

Embrace the Informal Atmosphere: Remember that the beauty of a festival-style wedding lies in its relaxed and laid-back vibe. Embrace the unique charm of your chosen style and trust that your guests will appreciate the casual atmosphere

Unexpected hiccups may arise, but with a positive attitude and a willingness to adapt, you'll create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Trust in the love and support of your nearest and dearest, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of your wedding adventure!

Other important things to consider:

Accessibility and Accommodation:

  • Ensure that the venue is accessible to all guests, including those with mobility issues. If necessary, make arrangements for ramps or alternative pathways.

Permits and Regulations:

  • Check local regulations and laws regarding hosting events on private property. You may need to obtain permits or adhere to certain restrictions, especially for larger gatherings.
  • Consult with local authorities or a professional event planner to ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Remember that the most important thing is to create a meaningful and memorable experience that reflects your love and commitment to each other.

(Definitely get permission from the land owner if you plan on blowing your cake up !!!!

Over the last few years, more and more couples are opting to have a smaller ceremony, only inviting those nearest and dearest to them, and then inviting wider friends and family to the reception afterwards. This way, the ceremony is less stressful and less pressure , but afterwards you still get to have lots of super natural shots of everyone enjoying themselves !! I know, knowing where to start when planning a wedding can be overwhelming, yet a lot of wedding suppliers get booked up two years in advance so getting moving with your wedding plans is SUPER important!! :) If you envisage a small wedding with a BIG party, then read up here my wedding planning tips, new bestie!! You will want to keep reading until the end as the last point is the most important (in my humble opinion)... Start by setting a budget and deciding on a venue. A smaller wedding will typically be less expensive than a larger one, so you may have more flexibility in your budget for a larger party afterwards. When looking at venues, really think about where best fits your personalities and style. Another point to make when choosing a venue is by how you feel around the staff. - Do they seem interested and excited by all of your plans? Is there a wedding co-ordinator who will be looking after you all day or will different team members be involved in your wedding day? Do they give off vibes that you will be well looked after or do you seem like 'just another wedding' to them? If you are going to have 1 location for the whole day ... Are there different rooms you can use? If you are having a smaller ceremony, you will want a smaller room to keep the intimacy (or can the ceremony be outside)? Then do they have a larger room for the celebrations afterwards?!?!

Over the past 2-3 years I have started to notice a common thread within different areas of my life. I really crave a more simple life. Be it getting rid of physical 'things' and going out on more adventures or getting rid of long to-do lists and focussing on the 1 or 2 most important things instead. I really am leaning to a more minimalist and freeing life (Ok I am still messy and still own too much, but I am trying)! Anyway the reason I feel like mentioning all of this is because one other thing I want to be more simplistic and effortless, is my newborn photography. I am over the days of buying more and more props, baskets, hats in all colours! And never feeling like I have enough. The fact I have no studio anymore is one reason for buying less, but another reason is when I look at my work, the photos which bring me the most joy, are the most natural photos. Why does your baby need to be photographed with anything else apart from their own beauty and peace. <3 I have been thinking a lot lately about the clarity of my sessions and here is what I have come up with. The aims of my newborn art sessions : - Mum and Dad are able to spend 2 or so hours relaxing, really taking in all the details of their perfect newborn. - Less is more! My aim is my photos just show complete peace! I feel this means toning down the colours and props - Let's focus on the beautiful baby! -These sessions will just go with babies flow! If they prefer laying on their backs - let's stick with that :)

Rosie and Ben's September wedding at Hall Farm. Their ceremony was held at Immingham Church. I absolutely love weddings filled with happiness and smiles and this wedding was definitely that!

1. What if my baby has Bad skin/Cradle cap? Dry flaky skin is really common with newborns! This shouldn’t be a worry for your professional photos as a great photographer is able to smooth the skin out during editing the photos so you can always remember your baby as the perfection they would be once their skin smooths out. With my photography although I smooth dry skin and get rid of a few spots your baby may have, I still try to keep a natural finish on your newborn photos.

My last wedding of 2018, could not have ended in a more perfect way. Nicola was getting ready in the bridal suite at the Oaklands with her sister and her Mum. It was a calm morning but I felt the excitement and the Christmas songs playing in the background really set the mood. Treasured Bouquets worked amazingly hard ALL morning to prepare the wonderful Garden Room at The Oaklands Hall Hotel and the set up for their wedding was stunning!! The ceremony room was bright yet cosy! It was a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony with smiles all round. -Makeup by Emma Jayne https://www.instagram.com/makeupbyemmajayne/ -Treasured Bouquets Flowers www.treasuredbouquets.co.uk
